I train more on the heavy side when focusing on lower body. And more on the lighter side for the upper portion. At my age and skill level, my goals have progressed. As well, I split my workouts into type of exercises and duration instead of body parts.

👁️ OVE’S GUIDE TO

THE HIGHS

High Highs: Fuel, Focus & Fitness 🚀

Over the past few editions, we’ve explored three ways to influence how we feel, perform, and experience life.

🍚 High Carbs: Fuel your body
🌿 High Times: Understand your relationship with cannabis
💪 High Reps: Challenge your muscles

Three different areas, one common theme: How you manage your energy, habits, and effort shapes your well-being.

Food fuels your work. Relaxation helps you unwind. Training builds your capacity. But more isn’t always better. The goal is to understand what works for you, when you need it, and how to make it sustainable.

Let’s Wrap It Up.

🍚 High Carbs — Fuel Your Effort

Carbohydrates are an important source of energy, especially during demanding physical activity.

You don’t need to avoid carbs or eat as much as you can. Focus on matching your intake to your needs.

🍚 Train hard? Rice, oats, potatoes, and fruit can help fuel performance and recovery.

🚶 Less active? Adjust your portions to suit your energy needs.

💪 Building muscle? Combine sufficient carbohydrates with protein and resistance training.

Carb cycling is one way to adjust carbohydrate intake between active and less active days. It’s an option, not a requirement for good health.

Why Care?

Adequate fuel supports energy, exercise performance, recovery, and metabolic health. Don’t fight your fuel. Learn how to use it.

🌿 High Times — Enjoy the Moment, Keep Your Balance

From Edition #160 – High Times

Cannabis can change how we experience relaxation, pleasure, appetite, and our surroundings. For some, it’s recreational; for others, it’s an attempt to manage particular symptoms.

But feeling good in the moment doesn’t automatically mean something is good for you in the long run.

Ask yourself:

• 🧠 Am I choosing this, or relying on it?
• 🎯 Does it support my life or help me avoid it?
• 😴 What effect does it have on my sleep, motivation, and focus?

Cannabis isn’t harmless. THC can impair memory, judgment, and coordination, and frequent use can increase the risk of dependence.

You don’t need to judge every choice. But you should understand the consequences and make informed decisions.

Why Care?

Your mental well-being matters as much as your physical performance. Relaxation should help you return to life, not a replacement for it.

💪 High Reps — Put in the Work

From Edition #162 – High Reps

Building muscle and improving fitness requires consistent effort.

High-repetition training typically uses lighter loads and more repetitions per set. It can improve muscular endurance and build muscle when the sets are sufficiently challenging.

Think:

• 🏋️ Squats performed with control.
• 💪 Curls that challenge your muscles without sacrificing technique.
• 🦵 Lunges that build strength and stability.

Do not simply do more repetitions. Instead, apply the right amount of challenge, maintain good form, and progress over time.

Gone are the days when you destroy yourself in every workout. Give your body a reason to adapt, then allow it to recover.

Why Care?

Resistance training supports muscle, bone health, physical function, and healthy aging.

Every repetition is an opportunity to practise discipline. Over time, consistent effort adds up to meaningful progress.

🧠 The Big Picture

These three editions connect through one principle: intentional choices beat mindless excess.

  • 🍚 High Carbs: Give your body the energy it needs.

  • 🌿 High Times: Be conscious of what you consume and why.

  • 💪 High Reps: Apply effort consistently and intelligently.

  1. Fuel without understanding your needs can become excess

  2. Relaxation without awareness can become avoidance

  3. Training without recovery can become overtraining

Find the right balance between what you put into your body, what you ask of it, and how you recover.

Enjoy the highs. Respect the limits. Build the habits.

🎯 THIS WEEK’S ACTION

7 DAY RESET

👁️ Try This Reset

For the next seven days, choose one small action in each area:

  • ☐ 🍚 Fuel: Include a quality carbohydrate source in a meal that supports your activity

  • ☐ 🌿 Focus: Spend 10 minutes unwinding without cannabis, alcohol, or scrolling

  • ☐ 💪 Fitness: Complete two resistance-training sessions with controlled repetitions and good technique

  • ☐ 📝 Reflect: Rate your daily energy, mood, and focus from 1 to 10

At the end of the week, ask yourself:

What helped me feel and perform better?

Keep what works. Adjust what doesn’t.
