Hello Viewer,

Spring officially began on Friday. As we creep out of winter and into bloomier weather, the end of March is the time to put away your winter comforts and bring out the excitement of an anticipated lovely summer. As the saying goes, an organized mind extends to an organized space.

In Edition #86, we pack up winter and prepare for blossoms and cherry blooms!

Spring Cleaning for a Sharpened Mind & Space

Getting your household involved in spring cleaning can turn a routine task into a shared mission for renewal, efficiency, and clarity. Here’s how to make it work—Coach DC style.

Back In Time Cleaning GIF by ABC TV + IVIEW

Step 1: Set the Collective Vision (Mindset First)

Before diving in, set the tone with your household:

  • Why does a cleaner space = a clearer mind?

  • What new energy do you want to bring into your home for spring?

  • What’s one area that feels the most cluttered and needs attention?

🔥 Coach DC Principle: An optimized space leads to an optimized life. Make the environment work for you—not against you.

Step 2: Make It a Game (Team Up & Compete)

Nobody likes to be “assigned” chores, but gamifying the process keeps it fun.

💡 Team Challenge Ideas:
✔️ Time Attack – Set a timer for 15 minutes per room. See who can organize the fastest (without cutting corners).
✔️ Before & After Contest – Take a photo of the messiest space before, then another after. The best transformation wins!
✔️ Mystery Item Toss – Everyone picks three things to donate or throw away. If no one guesses what’s missing, it wasn’t needed!
✔️ Playlist Power-Up – Each person gets to DJ a different cleaning session.

🔥 Coach DC Principle: Efficiency = Energy. Make the process light, fast, and engaging.

Step 3: Fun Facts – What to Keep vs. Toss

Want to avoid hoarding? Here’s a fun fact breakdown of what most people hang onto vs. what should go.

🧐 Most Kept Items (Are They Still Useful?)
✔️ Old T-shirts & Hoodies – If you haven’t worn them in a year, they’re probably just taking up space.
✔️ Outdated Electronics – That drawer full of tangled cables? It's time to let go.
✔️ Sentimental Paper Clutter – Birthday cards, old receipts… keep only meaningful ones.

🚮 Most Forgotten Things to Throw Away
Expired Spices & Pantry Items – Check those best-before dates!
Old Makeup & Skincare Products – They break down over time. Keep it fresh.
Unused Kitchen Gadgets – If you haven’t used it in 6 months, it’s dead weight.

🔥 Coach DC Principle: Let it go if it doesn’t serve your future.

Step 4: Assign “Zones” & Streamline the Process

Instead of random cleaning, assign each person a zone:

  • Living Area: Declutter common spaces and refresh seating areas.

  • Kitchen: Toss expired items and reorganize cabinets for efficiency.

  • Closets & Clothing: Rotate seasonal wear and donate unused pieces.

  • Bathroom: Streamline toiletries and wipe down surfaces for a spa-like refresh.

🔥 Coach DC Principle: Ownership creates accountability. Make sure every space has a purpose and a leader.

Step 5: Celebrate & Maintain the Wins

Once the cleaning is done, reward the household (or yourself) to reinforce the habit.
✔️ Movie Night & Takeout – Enjoy the fresh space!
✔️ New Small Additions – A plant, candle, or new organizational tool as a reward.
✔️ 10-Minute Daily Resets – Keep the momentum with quick daily tidying sessions.

🔥 Coach DC Principle: A maintained space stays powerful. Make cleanliness part of the routine, not just a once-a-year event.

Challenge: Pick one area & make it a team event. What’s the first space you’ll tackle together? 🚀

MINDFUL PRACTICE 🧠

THE JOY CHECK ☑️

Mindful Decluttering Exercise

Welcome to this mindful decluttering practice, where you bring awareness to your belongings and create space for clarity, focus, and renewal. As we transition into spring, let’s reflect on each item's energy and whether it truly serves us.

☑️ Step 1: Set Your Space & Intention
Find a quiet place where you can sort through your belongings without distractions. Take a deep breath, and set the intention:

“I am creating a space that reflects my growth, clarity, and joy.”

☑️ Step 2: The Joy Check
Pick up one item at a time and ask yourself:

Does this spark joy when I use or see it?
Does this align with the life I want to create?
Would I choose to bring this into my life today?

  • If the answer is yes, keep it with gratitude.

  • If the answer is no, acknowledge its purpose and let it go.

☑️ Step 3: Express Gratitude Before Storing or Letting Go
Before returning an item to storage or letting it go, take a moment to thank it for its role in your life. Say:

"Thank you for serving me. I release you with gratitude."

This simple act turns cleaning into a mindful ritual, helping you maintain a space that supports your well-being.

Inspired by Marie Kondo’s philosophy of tidying with intention and gratitude. To dive deeper into this practice, check out her book 📕 “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” on Amazon here.
