👁️ OVE’S GUIDE TO

ORAL HEALTH

🦷 Keep Your Mouth Healthy

Oral health is simple:

Prevent damage. Protect your teeth. Take care of problems early.

Your teeth and gums work every day. Give them the care they need, and they can serve you for decades.

🦷 Know Your Enamel

Enamel is the hard outer layer of your teeth.

It is about 96% mineral, mainly calcium and phosphate arranged into crystals called hydroxyapatite.

That makes it the hardest tissue in your body. But lost enamel does not grow back.

Early mineral loss, however, can sometimes be repaired through remineralization. Your goal is to protect the enamel you already have.

🦠 What Causes Cavities?

Cavities usually develop over time:

Plaque → bacteria → sugar → acid → mineral loss → cavity

Early mineral loss can sometimes be reversed.

Once a hole forms, however, your body cannot simply grow the enamel back.

What helps?

1️⃣ Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste (never swallow).
2️⃣ Clean between your teeth every day.
3️⃣ Reduce frequent sugary snacks and drinks.
4️⃣ Give your teeth time between meals to recover.

🍋 Don't Forget About Acid

Sugar isn't the only problem. Acid can also wear down enamel.

Common sources include:

🥤 Soda
⚡ Energy drinks
🧃 Juice and sports drinks
🍋 Citrus
🍷 Wine
🧪 Stomach acid from reflux or vomiting

The big issue: frequency

Drinking something acidic once is different from slowly sipping it for hours.

More exposure = more opportunities for enamel damage.

👉 Enjoy acidic foods and drinks but avoid constantly sipping them throughout the day.

🥛 Can You Rebuild Enamel with Calcium?

Not exactly.

Calcium and phosphate are important because they are the main minerals in enamel. Getting enough from your diet supports normal remineralization.

Good sources of calcium:

🥛 Milk and fortified alternatives
🧀 Cheese
🥣 Yogurt
🐟 Canned fish with bones
🥬 Some leafy greens

Phosphorus is easy to find in:

🥩 Meat
🐟 Fish
🍳 Eggs
🥛 Dairy
🌱 Beans and nuts

You don't need to megadose calcium or phosphate.

The bigger win is protecting your teeth from repeated acid attacks and using fluoride.

💧 Don't Forget Your Saliva

Your saliva is part of your mouth's natural defense system.

It helps:

  • Neutralize acids

  • Supply calcium and phosphate

  • Wash away food

  • Support remineralization

  • Protect your teeth

What can you do?

💧 Stay hydrated.
🍬 Use sugar-free gum to stimulate saliva when appropriate.
🥤 Choose water between meals.

If your mouth is consistently dry, speak with your dentist or healthcare professional. Medications, mouth breathing, and other factors can cause dry mouth.

😬 Your Teeth Can Wear Down

  • Not every dental problem is a cavity.

🪥 Brushing too hard

  • More pressure doesn't mean cleaner teeth.

  • Use gentle pressure and a soft-bristled toothbrush.

😬 Grinding & clenching

  • Grinding can gradually wear down enamel.

  • If you wake up with jaw pain, headaches, sensitive teeth, or notice unusual tooth wear, talk to your dentist.

🦷 Chips & cracks

  • Injuries and biting very hard objects can damage teeth.

Lost tooth structure does not naturally grow back.

🩸 Don't Forget Your Gums

Your gums need care too.

Gingivitis can cause:

🩸 Bleeding
🔴 Redness
🫧 Swelling
😮‍💨 Bad breath

If gum disease progresses, it can damage the bone and tissues supporting your teeth.

Bleeding gums shouldn't simply be ignored.

🛡️ Your Oral Health Checklist

Keep it simple:

  • 1️⃣ Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste.

  • 2️⃣ Clean between your teeth every day.

  • 3️⃣ Drink water regularly.

  • 4️⃣ Limit frequent sugar and acid exposure.

  • 5️⃣ Don't brush aggressively.

  • 6️⃣ Pay attention to grinding and clenching.

  • 7️⃣ Visit your dentist regularly.

  • 8️⃣ Don't ignore problems.

Pain, sensitivity, bleeding, swelling, persistent bad breath, cracks, or visible changes are reasons to get your mouth checked.

Remember:

Prevention is easier than repair.

🧠 WHY CARE?

Your mouth affects everyday life.

Healthy teeth help you eat. Healthy gums support your teeth. Saliva helps protect them. You don't need a perfect smile.

Protect what you have and deal with problems before they become bigger problems.

🎯 THIS WEEK’S ACTION

7-Day Mouth Reset

🏆 TRY THIS: Your 7-Day Mouth Reset

For the next 7 days, focus on the basics.

☀️ Morning

  • 🪥 Brush with fluoride toothpaste (do not swallow).

🍽️ During the Day

  • 💧 Drink water between meals.

  • 🍬 Reduce unnecessary snacking.

  • 🥤 Avoid constantly sipping sugary or acidic drinks.

🧵 Evening

  • 🧵 Clean between your teeth.

  • 🪥 Brush before bed.

👁️ Pay Attention

Notice:

  • Do your gums bleed?

  • Are your teeth sensitive?

  • Do you grind or clench?

  • Is your mouth often dry?

  • Do you have persistent bad breath?

  • Do you have tooth pain?

🚨 If something is wrong

Don't try to fix persistent dental problems with supplements or home remedies.

Get it checked.

Your dentist can determine whether you're dealing with a cavity, gum disease, enamel wear, grinding, infection, or something else.

🎯 Your goal this week:

Less damage. More protection. Better care.

Your teeth have been working for you your whole life.

Take care of the hardware. 🦷
