Hello {{ First Name | Viewer }},
It’s a fact: you’ll spend roughly one-third of your life asleep and, while you’re awake, potentially another one-third sitting. Let that sink in. So if you’re dealing with back, hip, or lower-body issues, don’t just focus on what happens in the gym. Look at what happens the other 23 hours of the day.
In Edition #155, spend less time in a sedentary state.

👁️ OVE’S GUIDE TO
THE 4 S
🧍 Standing • 🪑 Sitting • 😴 Sleeping • 🚽 Shitting
Dogs do something most humans rarely think about. Every time they wake up, stand up, get up, or even finish going to the bathroom, they stretch. It's not laziness. It's biology.
Stretching helps reset the body before movement by increasing blood flow, waking up muscles, lubricating joints, and preparing the nervous system for what's next. Humans were built to do the same—but modern life keeps us in one position far too long.
Let's look at the 4 S and why they matter for your health and longevity.

🧍 STANDING (1)
Standing is your body's natural upright position. It strengthens bones, activates your core, improves balance, and encourages healthy circulation. Unlike standing still, healthy standing is constantly shifting your weight from foot to foot.
⏱ Average Time
Day: 2 to 5 hrs
Week: 14 to 35 hrs
Year: 1 to 2 months
Lifetime: ~6 to 8 years
⚠️ Too Much Standing
Foot pain & plantar fasciitis
Varicose veins
Lower back fatigue
Knee & Achilles pain
✅ Movement Reset
💪 Every 20 to 30 minutes:
🚶 Walk 2 minutes
🦵 15 calf raises
🔄 Ankle circles
🏋️ 5 bodyweight squats
🤸 Hip shifts
🪑 SITTING (2)
Humans evolved to squat, kneel, climb, and walk—not spend entire days in chairs. Sitting itself isn't the problem; staying there for hours is.
⏱ Average Time
Day: 8 to 10 hrs
Week: 56 to 70 hrs
Year: ~4 months
Lifetime: ~17 years
⚠️ Too Much Sitting
Weak glutes
Tight hips
Rounded shoulders
Neck & back pain
Poor circulation
Reduced insulin sensitivity
✅ Movement Reset
💪 Every 30 to 60 minutes:
🚶 Walk 2 to 5 minutes
🦵 Hip-flexor stretch
🤸 Thoracic rotations
💪 Desk push-ups
🪑 Sit-to-stands ×10
😴 SLEEPING (3)
Sleep is your body's repair shop. While you're asleep, muscles recover, hormones rebalance, memories consolidate, and tissues rebuild.
⏱ Average Time
Day: 7 to 9 hrs
Week: 49 to 63 hrs
Year: ~4 months
Lifetime: ~26 years
⚠️ Too Little (or Too Much)
Poor recovery
Increased injury risk
Lower testosterone
Reduced immunity
Brain fog
Lower energy
✅ Morning Reset
🌅 Within 5 minutes of waking:
🙆 Full-body stretch
🐈 Cat-Cow ×10
🌞 Get sunlight
💧 Drink water
🚶 Walk 5 minutes
Exactly what your dog already does.
🚽 SHITTING (4)
It might sound funny, but healthy bowel movements are a sign of good digestion. They rely on proper breathing, pelvic floor relaxation, hydration, and fibre intake.
⏱ Average Time
Frequency: 1 to 3/day
Time: 10 to 15 min/day
Lifetime: Nearly 1 year on the toilet!
⚠️ Too Long
Constipation
Poor posture
Pelvic floor strain
Numb legs
✅ Better Bathroom Habits 🚽
🦶 Elevate your feet (6 to 9 in / 15 to 23 cm)
💧 Stay hydrated
🥗 Eat more fibre
🚶 Walk daily
📵 Leave your phone outside
🐕 Why Dogs Stretch
Dogs stretch because they're changing states.
Every stretch:
❤️ Boosts circulation
🦴 Lubricates joints
💪 Activates muscles
🧠 Wakes up the nervous system
⚖️ Improves balance
🚶 Prepares the body to move
Instead of asking "Did I exercise today?", ask:
"How many times did I interrupt stillness?"
That simple habit could matter just as much.
🧘 The Fifth S: Stretching
Stretching prepares their muscles, wakes up their nervous system, boosts circulation, and gets their joints ready for movement.
Perhaps stretching is the missing fifth S that connects the other four.
Just 2 to 5 minutes after one of the 4 S can improve mobility, posture, circulation, and reduce stiffness throughout the day.
🔄 2-Minute Reset (pick 1)
🏋️ 10 bodyweight squats
🙆 10 arm circles (each direction)
🐈 10 Cat-Cow repetitions
🦵 30-second hip-flexor stretch (each side)
🦶 10 calf raises
🚶 2-minute walk
You don't need another workout—you need more movement between moments of stillness. Small resets, repeated throughout the day, may be one of the simplest habits for staying mobile, reducing aches, and supporting long-term health.
❤️ Why It Matters for Longevity
The healthiest people don't just work out—they move often.
Breaking up long periods of standing, sitting, sleeping, or even bathroom time helps maintain:
❤️ Heart health
🦴 Bone strength
💪 Muscle mass
🧠 Brain function
⚡ Energy
🩸 Blood sugar control
🚶 Independence as you age
Movement is medicine—but frequency often beats intensity.
